About us Paraic McKevitt Architects was formed in 1997 with the specific intention of bringing a synthesis of art and architecture to Ireland`s regional landscape. Paraic had spent a number of years working in Europe and wished to return to Ireland to contribute to the relatively overlooked, provincial, built environment. This was the environment he grew up in but also the one, which seemed to receive the least architectural attention. With this in mind, identifying a building design approach became an exercise in trying to define a regional identity through contemporary architecture. To work with, and not against, an already strong visual landscape.
We feel that the challenge for us, as provincial architects, is to find an architectural or tectonic spirit, which resonates with provincial Ireland, its people and its places. Contemporary architecture can sometimes lack a sense of place or connection to its host location; our work is an attempt to formulate indigenous connections using light, space, materials and context.
